My theory is the NPC ramps up its attacks as it takes damage. this is just silly and feels vastly untested. I enjoy the entire game on hard with a few actual hard spots that require resets but this. And I don't even want to discuss the 1 shot mechanics the thing randomly seems to have. but by the time I do all of the explosives I'm usually around 50-70 health range with zero armor so even if I energy shot it to get to the next phase I dont know what I'd be able to really do down there.

What I didnt want to do, and what I shouldnt need to do realistically, is burn through energy shots. I consider myself pretty good when it comes to movement and dodging but even hitting 95% of all rockets in the pods, the 3 mp5 grenades, all 5 satchels, and a few hit or miss desperately tossed hand grenades i feel like im not even close. you made me feel a lot better about this. I had 3HP and literally died at the slightest mistake, but even then it was impossible to kill the thing. After hitting it with all the rockets/mp5 grenades and expending all the ammo for the tau-cannon/gluon gun after the second phase where it drops into the pit I was left with only grenades, satchels, trip mines and the rest of the arsenal, no luck. I agree that prior to the final encounter in its lair the game was fairly easy and not so much of an obstacle until that point.

I don't know if this was intentional or not. There was no where to run, hide, or even get a break. I felt like the second phase of that fight was in such a tight spot, and given how relentless it was with its acid attack, making the floor "lava", and the number of baby headcrabs it was an exercise in insanity to attempt to beat it. I had 3HP and literally died at the slightest mistake, but even then it was impossible to kill the thing.Įventually I just used god mode and impulse 101 to see just what it would take to kill it after loading a previous auto-save at the beginning of the second phase and after 75 units out of the gluon-gun it died. I tried for probably about over 20-30 times and never beat it on hard over the course of about an hour.
